The chemical composition of the raw material that is used to produce a fastener is all important. We are one of the few fastener companies who have an in house capability to undertake material analysis.
Our Spectromax metal analyser has recently been serviced and calibrated to a wide range of materials, including carbon, alloy and stainless steels.
We were delighted to be informed that the results were very consistent and accurate, with our analyser passing with flying colours!
Tim Garton, Director, Smith Bullough, was invited by the CBM trade association to visit JCB to hear a presentation by Chris Bell, General Manager Group Purchasing, that was followed by a tour of the Backhoe production and assembly line.
In the evening there was a meal at the nearby Boar’s Head Hotel which was enjoyed by more than fifty people including past Presidents and former and current Members. The CBM board was represented by the President, David Eales, Geraldine Boulton, chief executive, and Kirsi Lintula.

Our in-house quality department contains a full test laboratory, performing hardness & tensile testing, plating and surface coating thickness checks, ultrasound scans, microscopic investigation and metallurgical reporting.
